BASIC TEAM PRESENCE

Your athletes, parents and the teams you compete with want a proper internet presence. Who is on your team? What's your schedule? Who can I call if I want to find out about your team? We keep this current based on the details you share.

Team and Athlete Profiles

Profiles are so important for college-bound athletes of all ages! The profile provides a place to begin building a life-story, and a way to share it with the colleges that may interest them. In addition to organizing academic and athletic accomplishments, the profile forces athletes to start thinking about how they will present themselves: their interests and their community involvement.

Recruiting

We cannot tell you how many times our coaches have shared stories about recruiting (players to their team, as well as athletes into scholarships at college). Effective coaches must have a plan for creating and posting profiles! For one team or many in your organization, we can make this easy.

  • The First Step

The softball recruiting process starts with information. Every college softball hopeful, beginning as early as middle school, should be thinking about their application and taking steps on several fronts to make it compelling. College coaches scout active teams, and making your story available to them makes their job easier. Your team's website is a valuable recruiting tool. Getting recruited is the athlete's responsibility, and coaches have a whole team of players who want their help. While s/he does not have the time, resources, or relationships to get a scholarship for each of his or her players, challenging each athlete to build their profile is the first step!

  • Identifying Your Next Coach

Where do you want to go to school? How do you feel about the school, the team, the level of play, the players, the coaching staff, their record, the emphasis that the school places on athletics? What academic programs do they offer that you might like, how big is the school, how expensive, what is the campus and surrounding area like, are scholarships available? The list of questions can be endless. Where do high school athletes even begin? The answer is easy: make a list. Prioritize your questions. Then identify 3 groups of schools:
    1. Ideal Colleges
    2. Possibilities
    3. Fallback Choices

  • Contact Your Next Coach

Contact every coach on your list. Identify yourself and express interest in the school and their team in a brief, engaging cover letter (easy if your profile is up-to-date!). You can invite the coach to your games, inquire about the school's skills camp, mention your interest in visiting the campus and watching a game. The result is almost always a reply, which will give you some idea of what the coach is looking for, and how you might be the athlete that is ideally suited to meet that need. Ideally, you have initiated a dialogue that may lead to a spot on the team! Going forward, be sure to notify interested coaches when you update important details on your profile.

  • Build Your Profile

From the beginning of middle school until the end of high school, your story must evolve. How hard do you work on your grades? Athletes with strong academic records are of great interest to your next coach. When their team has a high GPA, it reflects well on everyone! What are your interests outside the classroom? Try to apply them in some manner that benefits the community. Every great college application from a well-rounded athlete includes solid grades, additional outside interests and some form of volunteerism. Oh yes, your regular sports training and participation at increasing levels matter too. Seem like a lot? It is, but it is what leads you to your next coach.
